Suicide: Man, 23, had temper issues, says grieving mum

Mrs. Cecilia Sunday is now a lonely woman, with no husband or child to share the rest of her life with.She confided in Weekly Trust that her 23-year-old son, who took his own life, was not her biological son but one she and her late husband adopted and cared for since he was 2 years old. “His father was my late husband’s younger brother and his father was bitten by a snake and died. Since I had no child of my own, my husband and I took Lucky in. My husband died in 2007 and since then it has been Lucky and I, until this terrible incident,” she explained.

The widow could not hide her grief when Weekly Trust visited her apartment behind Nigeria Electricity Servicing Company (NESCO) quarters in Bukuru, Jos South local government area in Plateau State. But there was also anger in her voice as she lamented and wondered what drove Lucky to take his own life, though she did not hide the fact that the victim has had a history of bad temper.
A resident who pleaded for anonymity explained that “She has tried with Lucky; she paid his school fees and took care of him even though he has refused to work. He depends on her for everything, yet he recently he burnt some of household items she bought and created a scene.”
Lucky’s lifeless body had been found hanging from the ceiling after neighbours though he was taking a nap last Friday. The police have already ruled the incident as suicide and he was immediately buried in his hometown of Bokkos LGA.
Mrs. Sunday, while recounting the event of that fateful day said neighbours told her the young man had been playing music and audibly singing along. When he became quiet they thought he had slept off. “When I returned from the market and tried to enter the room, I found that it was locked from inside, so I banged the door and called out his name but there was no response. We broke in and saw his lifeless body dangling from the ceiling.”
This is not the first time Lucky has spoken of death, Weekly Trust gathered. In January, he is said to have set fire to his belongings and told neighbours he was going to kill himself.
