PDP, APC chief trade words over Orji's award

A war of words has ensued between the Abia State chapter of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party and  a chieftain of the opposition All Progressive Congress in the state, Chief Okey Nwagbara over his alleged derogatory remarks on Gov. Theodore Orji.Nwagbara who is the APC Zonal Chairman for Abia Central, had allegedly described the recent National Honours Award conferred  on Governor  Orji “as an insult to Abia  people, especially those residing in the abandoned city of Aba.”

PDP in a swift reaction, described the APC chieftain as ” a confused political desperado looking for relevance”.

The party in a press statement signed  by its Publicity Secretary, Chef Uchechi Ogbuka, and obtained by The PUNCH in Umuahia ,  said, ” Nwagbara who has since lost political steam to command any attention in the state,  only resorted to media attacks on the Governor as a means of achieving cheap popularity.”

PDP also accused Nwagbara and his party, APC of sponsoring cheap blackmails against the state government “in their desperation to gain recognition ahead of the 2015 polls,” but added that ” their strategy is belated as all Abians are aware of their antecedents.”

According to PDP, the award on Governor Orji is “a federal endorsement and testimonial of his giant strides which have since changed the face of Abia State.”

PDP said, “it is only the likes of Nwagbara that will not see the wave of multi-sectoral transformation currently pervading the Abia landscape, and that Orji’s award is well deserved and cannot be disputed.”

PDP therefore, warned members of the opposition to show respect for the office of the Governor even if they disagree with the policies of the occupant of the exalted seat.

The party also boasted that it would maintain its grip in the state come 2015 elections, dismissing threats by the opposition to dislodge PDP in the upcoming polls as “empty noise that lacks substance.”
