Civil Defence denies auctioning seized trucks

The Bayelsa State Command of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps has denied a report linking it with auctioning of seized trucks. The NSCDC Commandant, Mr. Desmond Agu, said in Yenagoa during the week that he had asked the investigative unit of the command to probe the report and unmask perpetrators behind it. Agu said it was unfortunate that a “report of such magnitude” could be written without verifying from his command.

He described the development as a deliberate ploy by persons against the anti-vandalism war of the
command to drag its image into the mud. Describing the allegation as malicious, Agu asked
members of the public to discountenance it. He said, “We do not have any truck to sell or auction.
We have no bicycle, motorcycle or any other vehicle
let alone trucks to sell.

“We have started probing the matter to get to the root of the misleading report which is capable of
tarnishing the image of the NSCDC in the country. “The command has activated its investigative
machinery to fish out persons behind the publication and to know their motives. Such persons will be dealt
with within the ambit of the law.” Agu, who described the NSCDC as a bureaucraticorganisation, explained that auctioning of such items could not have been done without the involvement of the Pipelines and Products Marketing Company. He, however, said the command had in its custody three trucks marked as exhibits in ongoing court cases with two Nigerian firms.
