Carpenter commits suicide in Abeokuta


A carpenter, Samsudeen Akinwunmi, who resides on Abowaba street in the Itori-Odo area of Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, has committed suicide, residents say. The deceased was reported to have left a note, alleging that his concubine duped him of millions of naira He was said to have last been seen at about 2.15 p.m on Saturday having sent his children on errand. Some residents of the area told our correspondent that Mr. Akinwunmi allegedly hung himself on the ceiling fan of his room where his remains were later discovered. His body was brought down by the police and deposited in the hospital morgue.

 Reacting to the incident, a Community leader and Alapinni of Egbaland, Omolaso Ojedele, described the incident as a tragedy. Residents of the area said police detectives visited the scene of the incident and promised to investigate Mr. Akinwunmi’s death. The spokesperson of the Ogun State Police Command, Muyiwa Adejobi, did not answer or return calls made to him to confirm the incident.
